Mobile App for Alameda County DA's Human Exploitation and Trafficking (H.E.A.T.) Watch Program’s “Dear John” letter
Format the Alameda County DA's Human Exploitation and Trafficking (H.E.A.T.) Watch Program’s “Dear John” letter reports into a mobile app. This campaign relies on community members noting the license plate numbers of sex purchasers in Oakland to Oakland Police Department, who then send those guys letters admonishing their action and reminding them that it is unlawful, dehumanizing, and often dangerous for themselves and the victims. We let them know many victims are underage, and many adults were trafficked as children. We also remind them of the bad things that may come because of their actions- car impoundment, huge fines, and STI's, just to name a few. We have gotten feedback that community members don’t feel comfortable trying to write down license plates for fear of being suspicious. They have mentioned that if they could just report via phone, it would be a lot easier.
